The first week of school was filled with the adventures of learning who and where everything was. The first day the students learned where they were supposed to sit and what happened in all the various parts of the classroom. They met their teacher and their classmates. They learned how they were supposed to act and where they were supposed to go. They also learned about all the exciting centers in the classroom, like the reading center, the math center and the phonics center. They also learned their places at their tables and the colored spaces at the front of the room by the white board.
We learned some new songs this week, like "Tidy Up", "Write Your Name on the Paper" and "Rise and Shine". Singing is a great way for the students to learn how to handle their new responsibilities. We also spent some time with actual lessons. We reviewed how to count to 120, worked with letters, made paper rabbits and reviewed a number of things they probably already knew. This was a great opportunity to remember how school works and how to get along with their class mates. We also learned about acting in the cafeteria, how to find the right way home and how to get around the school. All in all, it was a busy week filled with many new adventures. We had hoped to get a visit from a school friend, Tracker Tim. Unfortunately, he was not able to come this week, but did send a treasure chest to the class. Each week, exceptionally good students will be allowed to select a treasure from the chest. The children were very excited to see the treasure chest and see the treasures inside.
